Feelings/Emotions Week *MWF*

Our feelings theme this week was very exciting!  We spent time this week reading several books about feelings.  We read Glad Monster, Sad Monster, Llama Llama Mad at Mama, Go Away Big Green Monster, and I Am So Mad.  We played Feelings charades and sang "If your happy and you know it(sad, frustrated, excited, surprised).  We made Play-Doh face and used felt pieces to create different emotions.  We created monsters and drew faces with different emotions. We had our first Stretch-n-Grow of the year and it was a hit!
Next week we will be talking about shapes.

Feelings/Emotions Week *T/TR

This week was all about emotions! We discussed different feelings and ways we can tell how a person is feeling (voice, facial expressions, body). We shared a few more family photos pages too. We decided that the family album makes us all feel happy! We also sang a song about emotions (see below). Our circle time books were My No, No, No Day and I Was So Mad.

We discussed the Spanish words for "happy" and "sad". I worked with each child using pictures of different faces to identify: happy, sad, mad/angry, tired, and silly. We used play-dough and felt boards to make faces.

One thing you might notice after this week is your child labeling his/her emotions at random times. For example, saying "I am sad" when they are crying or "I'm mad!" when they are upset. This is something we practice in class all the time to help them identify and diffuse difficult emotions and to identify good feelings too.

We had Stretch & Grow this week! Coach Natalie helped us remember that moving our bodies and eating healthy foods keeps us healthy. We went on an ocean adventure, rowed boats, and battled pirates!

Every morning circle, we sing "hello" and then we look at our jobs for the day. Our weather helper helps us decide what it looks and feels like outside. Then, we have a story and a prayer for morning snack.

Friends Week! T/TR

Hello! We had a busy week discussing friendship and how to make a friend and be a friend. We read Should I Share My Ice Cream?, Llama Llama Bully Goat, and Friendshapes. We played a pass the ball (ice cream) game during circle and made a poster with our traced hands. I asked each child "What makes a good friend?" and there some really great answers :) A few examples are "sharing, playing together, being happy, being kind, and listening.
Our class enjoyed outdoor time riding tricycles, using the water table, and playing hopscotch together. We also took a walking tour around the building so that everyone is familiar. The children also enjoyed using puffy paint to add ice cream to our "cones" during art. We cut open a watermelon during circle and made observations about the outside and inside of it. Unfortunately, it was not ripe enough to eat.

Next week is... Feelings Week!

Using the light table with neon legos!

We had rainbow squish bags of paint & a shape train to play with on Tuesday

The class answered about half "YES" they would share their ice cream.

Half of the class said "NO" they wouldn't :)
