5 Senses Week *T/TR

We had a fun week learning about our 5 senses this week! The kiddos explored all kinds of materials they could hear, see, smell, taste, and touch. We had soft/hard and smooth/bumpy touch table items this week, stackable noisy blocks, and plenty of musical instruments to use throughout each day. On Tuesday, we practiced walking to chapel and learned a song "Jesus Loves Me" since our chapel time was cancelled. We also got plenty of sunshine on the playground digging for worms and watering our flowers. On Thursday, we had picture day and played in the gym. We also popped popcorn in the air popper & had a special snack. We wrote down observations about how the popcorn looked, sounded, smelled, tasted, and felt.

Next week is color week! I will be sending an email with more details over the weekend :)

5 Senses Week *MWF*

This week we talked all about our 5 Senses.  We painted with Kool-aid and built Mr. Potato Heads.  We played a touch guessing game (we placed an object inside a covered box and the children had to describe how it feel and tried to guess what it was) and guess the sound game. We sang a silly song about Apples and Bananas.  We read the books Too Loud Lily and My Five Senses.  On Friday, we made homemade lemonade. 
We had our first chapel of the year with Pastor Chris.  We also had our pictures taken.  The proofs should come back in a couple weeks.
Next week we will be talking about colors and how they mix to make new colors.

Shapes Week *MWF*

This week we learned about shapes.  We read the books Skippy Jon Jones-Shapes, Monster Shapes, and What Is A Triangle?.  We created circle art using circles dipped in paint and used shape stamps to make a collage.  We also used record players to make circles.  Play-Doh was a hit when the children were making shapes.  We also had a Pizza Restaurant in or kitchen area.  We played shape Bingo and did a toothpick star experiment.  

Next week we will be talking about the five senses.

Shapes Week ***T/TR class

 Hello Families!
 We had a busy week learning basic shapes and introducing some geometry concepts. We focused on identifying circles & squares on Tuesday...Triangles & Rectangles on Thursday. We learned some songs to help us remember 3 of our shapes. You may hear your children singing....

"A square is like a box. A square is like a box. All 4 side are just the same. A square is like a box!"
Or
"A circle is like a ball. A circle is like a ball. Round & round & round it goes...a circle is like a ball!"
Or
"A triangle has 3 sides. A triangle has 3 points. I can count them...1,2,3...a triangle has 3 sides!"

We played a game during circle called "Will it roll?" We tried various shape blocks on a ramp. We made predictions about which shapes would roll (the round ones) and which would slide (the ones with flat sides). We introduced some 3d shapes like a sphere, cone, cylinder and cube during this activity. Our touch table featured water and starfish and dolphins this week.
We also practiced our fire drill as a class on Thursday. We discussed what the alarm might sound like. We talked about how to stay safe and how important it is to listen for directions and stay together. Everyone did great!
